new york city - day one

to save my sanity, i think i'll post info and pictures about our new york trip via one day per post.

our trip to new york began on sunday with downpours outside. we all weighed in AT (whitney!) or below the fifty pound weight limit for delta and then (it never fails) i was randomly selected for a super high-tech search/pat-down. we then sat outside our gate much longer than anticipated because our plane hadn't even arrived. once we finally got on our (TINY) plane (minus my carry-on because the plane was too small for me to keep it near me) we sat for an HOUR because our plane was overweight! a few standy-by passengers less, we finally took off ten minutes before we were originally to land in NY. don't worry, the tiny yipping dog in the row in front of us helped our flight pass by at an enjoyable pace - not.

we landed at jfk WITH our (wet from the rain) bags and caught a (crazy) cab into the city. our hotel room was the best i have EVER seen. we stayed at the hilton on sixth avenue (thanks to emmie's mom) and loved every minute of it. we were in a corner room on the 30th floor, with a view of the empire state building and radio city from our window. thank you cindy corl.

as soon as we freshened up we headed out into the city with a mission: broadway tickets. our first stop was the gershwin theatre to secure wicked tickets (!!!) for tuesday night. those tickets set us back financially a pretty penny, but we knew it would be worth it. next we headed to "chicago" where we were able to purchase student tickets (only $30!) for the performance later that night. we were absolutely starving and stopped for a (very) late lunch at Famiglia, a pizzeria in times square. i can't remember if we napped or not, but after dressing for the theatre, we headed out to see chicago. the show was great and when we came outside, we were greeted with an incredible amount of snow falling.

after the show it was time for a late dinner, so we tried charley o's because of their drink specials. the drinks were decent, but the food and service were lacking. so we headed first to bear moose bar or some funny combination of animal names to meet up with a friend of mine (brian). we left with him and headed toward a pub.

it was an eventful first day in the city!
